WHILE WE ARE STILL EATING MATZAH AND COUNTING THE OMER Among the 14 haggadot known to have been written and illuminated in Catalonia (NE Iberian peninsula and SE France) there is the Rylands Haggadah (c. 1330-1349), t oday in The John Rylands University Library, Manchester (Heb. MS. 6) The illustration in my post is on page 67, where matzah is represented as an intriguing golden disc. This haggadah includes micrographies, which are designs where the lines are made of biblical verses. In this case, vegetal, geometrical and zoomorphic motifs. Look for them throughout the book, the first one can be seen on page 16.
